In relation to the field of Fine Arts, antiquity refers to the period centered around the civilisations of Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece, which in turn refers roughly to the time period of 1000 BC to 600 AD. 

Its most recognisable characteristics include sophisticated styles of pottery, technically advanced metal work, mythology, religious themes, mosaics and marble sculpture. There are often idealized depictions of the human form, in both painting and sculpture.
